Daley wins GOP Primary

LAPEER COUNTY — Tuesday was Primary Election Day in Lapeer County and across Michigan.

Arcadia Township resident Kevin Daley trounced Rep. Gary Glenn of Williams Township in Bay County to win the Republican Party primary 18,548 to 13,154 — a margin of 5,394 votes. As a result, Daley will face Democratic Party challenger Cynthia Luczak on the Nov. 6 General Election ballot to represent the 31st Senate District seat currently held by Sen. Mike Green, R-Mayville who is term limited and cannot run again.

Daley won 9,017 votes in Lapeer County; 5,517 votes in Bay County; and 4,014 in Tuscola County. Glenn earned 4,745 votes in Lapeer County, 4,821 in Bay and 3,588 in Tuscola.

According to the Lapeer County Clerk’s Office, 33 percent of the county’s 66,454 registered voters (22,110) cast a vote in Tuesday’s election.

Unofficial Lapeer County results are as follows:

Gubernatorial Republican Primary: State Attorney General Bill Schuette, 7,719; Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, 3,033; Jim Hines, 1,559; Sen. Patrick Colbeck, 1,557.

Gubernatorial Democratic Primary: Gretchen Whitmer, 4,467; Abdul El-Sayed, 1,605; and Shri Thaneder, 1,111.

Gubernatorial Libertarian Primary: Bill Gelineau, 43; John Tatar, 38.

31st Senate District: Republican Primary — Kevin Daley, 9,017; Rep. Gary Glenn, 4,745 (Republican). In Tuscola County: Daley, 4,014; Glenn 3,588. Bay County: Daley, 5,517; Glenn, 4,821. Democratic Primary — Cynthia Luczak, 2,677; Joni Batterbee, 1,218; Chuck Stadler, 1,191; Bill Jordan, 1,024.

North Branch Township Supervisor: Gary Swoish, 324;

Robert DeTavernier, 224.
