Local Hospitals Offer Diabetes
Education Refresher Class The Diabetes
Self-Management Training (DSMT)
program of Marlette Regional Hospital
and McKenzie Health System,
as affiliates of United Healthcare
Partners, invites Thumb Area residents
living with diabetes to take advantage
of an educational opportunity that
can assist them in managing their
condition and overall health. The
Diabetes Self-Management Essentials
201 Course is a new, 2½ hour
refresher class that is taught by a
registered nurse, certified diabetes
educator and registered dietitian. This
refresher class is intended for diabetic
patients that have completed 10 hours
of DSMT education. Course topics will
include healthy eating for weight loss,
medication and insulin use, evaluating
blood glucose results and much more.
Classes are scheduled for March 28
from 1:30 – 4 p.m., June 6th from 6 –
8:30 p.m., and September 12th from
9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. This event will be
hosted at the MRH East Campus in
Marlette, located at 2861 Main Street.
A guest is welcome to attend with
participants and refreshments will be
provided. Please register in advance as
limited seating is available. The cost
associated with DSMT programs and
refresher classes are covered by most
insurance companies, but co-pays
and deductibles may apply. Attendees
should call their insurance company to
verify coverage for education. A referral
by a primary care provider is required

LOVING HANDS CLINIC
FREE-DIABETIC EDUCATION CLASSES
The Loving Hands Clinic will be
conducting their FREE Diabetic
Education Class beginning Monday,
March 19. The class consists of five
Class Sessions, with each class
covering a different topic. Classes
are held at the Loving Hands Clinic
on Mon. and Wed. at 1 to 3 p.m.
Classes will be held on March 19,
21, 26, 28 and finish on April 2.
The Classes are held at the Loving
Hands Clinic, which is located inside
of Woodside Bible Church, 148 Maple
Grove Road, Lapeer. Each class is
built upon information presented
during the previous class and lasts
about 2 hours. Individuals might
not be able to register for these
classes once the five-part session
has begun, without approval from the
instructor. The classes are offered to
any Diabetic Patient, or Pre-Diabetic
Patient who lives in Lapeer County.
A family member, or care giver is
welcome to attend with the student.

Shoe Collection of gently used shoes
to help those in need and money
goes to helping Detroit Bully Corps to
rescue dogs. Drop off location, 100
Lone Pine Trail, Lapeer Twp. Drop
off anytime, leave shoes on covered

Accept any style and size of shoes,
sandals, boots, heels, flats, skates
and rollerblades, anything you wear
outside on your feet. Shoes must be
in matching pairs and cannot have
major defects. For every 25 pairs of
shoes we collect, DBC will receive
$10 from Funds2Orgs. Detroit Bully
Corps is a nonprofit canine rescue
and rehabilitation facility located in
Lapeer. We rescue bully breeds, like
the American Pit Bull Terrier, Mastiff,
Boxer and Bulldog. The shoes will
be given to underprivileged people in
impoverished nations so they can start
micro-enterprises where they repair,
clean and re-sell the shoes. For more
