LAPEER — A 24-year-old Clifford man, suspected in a Tuscola County attempted kidnapping, is being held in the Lapeer County Jail on a probation violation complaint for a previous conviction for operating while intoxicated, assault, and resisting and obstructing a police officer.

Lapeer County Sheriff’s Dept. Lt. Duane Englehardt said the suspect was sentenced to 25 days in the Lapeer County Jail, but he could leave before that. Michigan State Police from the Caro Post are completing an investigation into an attempted kidnapping on Mayville Road in Tuscola’s Koylton Township about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday (June 14.)

Det./Sgt. Jeff Hook, said the Clifford man and a 15-yearold Kingston boy apparently exchanged words on the side of the road and then the Clifford man reportedly tried to force him into his older model Ford regular cab pickup truck.

Hook said he doesn’t believe the pair had any sort of prior relationship.

Later in the day troopers at the Caro post received information regarding a possible suspect and suspect vehicle involved in the incident. They met with the suspect and after questioning him seized his truck and took him to the Lapeer County Jail.

Hook expects to have a report complete early this week and then seek warrants from Tuscola County Prosecutor Mark Reene. In the meantime, the suspect remains held at the Lapeer County Jail.
