Lady Chiefs open season with strong start

The Chiefs opened defense of their Thumb Independent Women’s Golf League title with a 190-234 victory over Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest on Tuesday at The Hamptons. Rachel Rose was medalist with a 5- over-par 39, Erin Kerr shot 42, Emma Kerr 53 and Jackie Victor 56 for Capac. — D.N.

LAPEER EAST

The Lady Eagles finished in 19th place at the Highlands Shootout on Thursday with a team score of 408. Sierra Woodcum led East with a 91, while Meghan Gordon shot her way to a 103. Abby Kanasty finished right behind her with a score of 104, and Audrey Fleming totaled 110. Megan Cuthbert recorded a 113 on the day, rounding out the Eagles’ scorecard. — B.P.

LAPEER WEST

The Panthers tied for eighth place in the Highlands Shootout on Thursday at Heather Highlands. Caycee Turczyn shot 79 to tie for 12th individually, as West totaled 365 to tie with Birmingham Seaholm and Hartland. Alex Gould added 91, Kate Carlson 94, Katie Newton 101 and MacKenzie Putnam 110 for the Panthers.

West will play Brandon tomorrow at The Jewel of Grand Blanc. — D.N.
